International Partnerships Initiative

Prion diseases are not a uniquely Canadian concern, but rather have significant negative impacts on health and economic well-being globally. PrioNet's International Partnership Initiative (IPI) is enhancing outreach initiatives by extending the geographical range of PrioNet to encompass international partners.

To address the many facets of prion diseases, a structured forum with highly trained experts must be coordinated for regular and documented exchange of ideas, research outcomes, and technological advances. PrioNet's IPI enables this interaction.

PrioNet’s IPI has instigated the creation of collaborations among prion networks around the world.  Specific goals are the promotion of technology exchange through enhanced technical coordination and training, and furthering risk assessment and management capabilities by augmenting exchange of research outcomes.

This initiative is possible only by the continued support of PrioNet's international partners, the NeuroPrion Network of Excellence in the European Union, and the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center and The CJD Foundation in the United States. PrioNet's IPI funding is made possible through the Networks of Centres of Excellence Program.
