Eligibility Definitions

The term Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) is used to collectively describe graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and young professionals (such as technicians and research assistants or associates).

All applicants must be based in Canada (with the exception of the Canada-Europe Reciprocal Exchange Program that accepts NeuroPrion HQP).


PrioNet HQP
For students and young professionals who have signed the NCE Appendix A working under the supervision of a currently or previously funded PrioNet Full Scientific Member or Associate Scientific Member:

  • PrioNet Student Member: PrioNet Student Members are any undergraduate or graduate students currently working on PrioNet-related research in a Canadian university, university-college, research institute, or government laboratory under the supervision of a Full Scientific Member or Associate Scientific Member of PrioNet Canada. 
  • PrioNet Post-doctoral Fellow Member: PrioNet Post-doctoral Fellow Members are any post-doctoral or medical fellows currently working on PrioNet-related research in a Canadian university, university-college, research institute, or government laboratory, under the supervision of a Full Scientific Member or Associate Scientific Member of PrioNet Canada.
  • PrioNet Young Professional Member: PrioNet Young Professional Members are individuals who have completed their undergraduate or graduate degree or a post doctoral or medical fellowship (which ever is the most recent) in the last five years and has entered the work force in Canada in that time.  This Young Professional may be currently employed in a Canadian academic, hospital, industrial, or government facility.  A PrioNet Young Professional Member must be employed under the supervision of a Full Scientific Member or Associate Scientific Member of PrioNet Canada.

Independent HQP 
For students and young professionals currently working on PrioNet-related research but have not signed the NCE Appendix A:
  • Independent Student Member: Independent Student Members are any undergraduate or graduate students currently working on PrioNet-related research in a Canadian university, university-college, research institute or government laboratory who have not signed the NCE Appendix A.
  • Independent Post Doctoral Fellow Member: Independent Post Doctoral Fellow Members are any post doctoral or medical fellows currently working on PrioNet-related research in a Canadian university, university-college, research institute or government laboratory who have not signed the NCE Appendix A.
  • Independent Young Professional Member:  Independent Young Professional Members are individuals who have completed their undergraduate or graduate degree or a post doctoral or medical fellowship (which ever is the most recent) in the last five years and has entered the work force in Canada in that time.  This Young Professional may be currently employed in a Canadian academic, hospital, industrial, or government facility.  An Independent Young Professional Member has not signed the NCE Appendix A.
