How to Be a Triathlete

2Deciding to be a triathlete (especially if you haven’t been a runner, a swimmer, nor a cyclist), is not as easy as it looks. There are lots of preparation and training to undergo, but with the right mindset and dedication, you would soon get there. Here are some tips for people who want to become a triathlete.

1. Research

A triathlon is different from other races since it includes three different sports – swimming, cycling and running. Make sure that you do your homework on how triathlons are and what you need to do during the race. You can read about the sport, but it would be better to go watch one or two yourself before deciding where you would really want to join.

2. Get What You Need

It’s not just about getting a bike or any wetsuit that would pass as your gear. If you really want to be an athlete, invest in the good stuff. Just because you’re a beginner does not give you the reason to show up during a race with cheap gears. That does not mean you have to spend a lot either. It only means that you choose your gear well since your safety and comfort depends on it. You could check out these

3. Get A Trainer

Before you even start training, you should have already hired a coach to guide you through the process. It is important to let an experienced trainer plan the most effective training for you based on your strengths and weaknesses. Your trainer would also be able to track your progress as you go along with the training course. He or she would also tell you what you should be expecting during a race and get you ready for any situation.

4. Know Your Limits

As a beginner triathlete, you should consider joining short races first. You would want your body and mind to adjust to the new sport you are getting into before joining the big boys. Not because you were a good swimmer when you were younger than you think you’d beat all of them in the leg. It takes a lot of different skills combined to even finish the race, let alone win it. Do it one step at a time.

5. Watch Your Diet

As an athlete, one of the basic things you should be doing is watching what you eat. In order for you to be able to get through the training without risking your health, you have to stay healthy. You would need a diet plan for you to have all the energy you need for the training and the race itself.

6. Enjoy

Just because you want to win, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Triathlon is a very fun sport where all competitors do what they love to do and be competitive at the same time. Think of why you started racing in the first place instead of just thinking of how to win.
