Steps to Cleaning Your Dishwasher

Your dishwasher is the single machine in your kitchen that helps you out after you have already enjoyed the meal you have prepared. It makes the dishwashing chore much easier and more tolerable. That is why it is important that you also give it the care it deserves. The following are the steps on how you could clean your dishwasher properly.

Step 1: First thing you need to do is empty your dishwasher.

This is a very obvious thing, but we would be adding it here anyway. Pack away the dishes that you have left inside it before starting the cleaning.

Step 2: Next thing you have to do is to remove the racks and clean the spinning holes.

Be careful in doing so as not to scratch any part of the inside of your machine. You could use any pointy tool to get rid of the food remnants that have built up in the holes.

Step 3: Wipe the grate and the bottom of the door next.

These are places where a lot of food debris gets stuck. Water does not reach the bottom of the door and wastes usually get stuck on the grate which is located at the bottom of the dishwasher. Use warm water with a bit of detergent on it to easily remove grease and loosen other food particles.

Step 4: Clean the filter of the dishwasher.

Be careful when you are detaching it from your washer since some models have a lot of screws on them. You could use a soft brush to remove the stuck bits of food in it. Also, wash it with soapy hot water. You could also try to use baking soda paste.

Step 5: Use vinegar to dampen a cloth and use it to wipe the door seal.

The acidity of the vinegar would help remove stubborn particles on and around the door seal. You could also use a brush or Q-tip with vinegar for tight areas.

Step 6: Now, it’s time to clean the utensil racks.

Use a soapy brush to get rid of food particles that are stuck on the racks. Do not forget to rinse it after before putting them back.

Step 7: Put two cups of vinegar at the bottom of the dishwasher then run it on low.

Halfway through the cycle, turn it off and let the vinegar sit for twenty minutes. Then, turn the washer back on and finish the cycle. This would get rid of any particles you have missed.

Step 8: Take care of the exterior of the machine.

You could use a microfiber cloth to clean the outside better. Use some sprays to help you get rid of dirt that is hard to remove. Rinse using a damp cloth. And wipe it with a dry cloth again to finish. Now, you are all done. Make sure to do this once a month. But, if you use your dishwasher more often than usual, you might want to clean it twice a month. It is also wise to choose the cleaners you use, as well as the best dishwasher detergent to make sure that your dishwasher would do its job even better.
